How to Join Scouts

Where your Scouting Adventure Begins...

WANTING TO JOIN IN – INFORMATION FOR PROSPECTIVE SCOUT FAMILIES

Scouts is a truly great experience for most young people that sign up – but it cannot exist without the help of adults. Adult leaders are not paid – they are volunteers , so before you ask to join Scouts for your child, ask yourself – ‘would you like to spend more time with your child doing fun activities like canoeing, rock climbing or just simply camping and swimming’ if the answer is yes, then should think about HOW TO BECOME A LEADER.

JOINING SCOUTS

STEP 1 - Arange a Trial Night

So that your child knows whether they want to join BUDERIM SCOUTS we allow up to 3 trial nights by prior arrangement, this only takes place if we have the capacity for more kids.

(What if you know your child will love scouts but there isn’t room for more - volunteer to become a leader. Having trained leaders means we can take more kids – otherwise if our books are full you will be put on our waiting list until we think we are ready to open up the doors again)

If we have any capacity to take new youth members – you can arrange a trial night by emailing buderimcommittee@gmail.com.

If we can take any new members you will be invited to bring your child along, it is important to note we do not allow walk ins ie just dropping your child in for a night as we often have pre-prepared groups and activities.

If we invite your child for a trial night – you must bring a completed indemnity form (F6) with you – it is to be handed into the leader upon arrival.

What should your child wear for a trial night:

  • Closed in shoes – always – never send your child to any scout event in open toed shoes – they will be sent home – it’s not safe
  • Casual clothes – shorts and a t shirt or jeans and a t shirt – don’t come in your best clothes, scouts often get dirty – that’s part of the fun

STEP 2 – YOUR CHILD LOVED SCOUTS - SO HOW DO THEY JOIN UP

After the trial night, the Group Leader will check with the leaders how the trial night went. If your child wants to join up you will need to re-email buderimcommittee@gmail.com within the next couple of days to confirm that you would like to complete the A5 Youth Membership Application Form.
